This page is to capture the details of autosomal DNA tests conducted by people with Johnson/Johnston/Johnstone ancestors. Many of the people on this page also have Y-DNA test results showing that they are related at some point in the past on the male line.
The aim of this DNA genealogy study is to attempt to identify groups of people who are related within a genealogical timeframe and might therefore have a hope of finding a paper trail connecting the families.
If you would like to be included in this study then please get in contact via email.
Autosomal DNA tests for genealogical purposes are offered by FamilyTreeDNA as Family Finder, by ancestry.com as AncestryDNA, by 23andMe as a genealogy test, and by other companies as well. These tests are equivalent in many ways so any of them are suitable for inclusion in this study.
To be included you must at a minimum submit your raw data to gedmatch.com and then provide your gedmatch kit number for inclusion in the analysis. If you would like to participate in more detailed analysis then please provide your raw build 37 data file to me as well so that analysis of the raw data can be performed to find matches with others, and to attempt to isolate sections of DNA that help identify specific ancestors. The other important information to provide is a pedigree of your Johnson/Johnston/Johnstone line.
